Nine Glaws changes for GP trip to Sale

Iain Balshaw - back
By Cherry Picker September 25 2008
Gloucester make nine changes from the team that beat Harlequins for their Guinness Premiership visit to sale on Friday night. Some of the changes are enforced, but not all of them are. With three games in the next eight days, coach Dean Ryan says it's time the strength in depth in the Glaws squad was put to good use.

After his stint as a telly personality last weekend, Iain Balshaw is back to what he does best for his first game of the season at full-back in place of Olly Morgan.
Morgan, along with recent match-winner Willie Walker, can consider himself unlucky to be left out, but as Ryan says, it's a squad game.
He told the Citizen: "Tomorrow is the beginning of an exceptionally intense period for us and for that reason we have to utilise the strength we have in our squad.
"We are back in the Guinness Premiership next Tuesday against Newcastle at Kingsholm which only gives us a four-day turnaround after Friday, before the start of the EDF Energy Cup against Wasps and then we are into Europe.
"I have always made it clear that changes are essential over a season of this length and intensity to remain competitive. We also have some injuries in certain areas and we need to be mindful of our schedule ahead."
JSDJames Simpson-Daniel (right), "rested" againsty Quins, makes a speedy return, while Lesley Vainikolo keeps his place on the other wing at a time when many Glaws fans he might be vulnerable.
Matthew Watkins replaced Mike Tindall in the centre, partnering Olly Barkley, while at half-back Ryan Lamb and Rory Lawson both return.
In the pack, Alasdair Dickinson keeps his loose-head place after going on against Quins, while dave Young is at tight-head in place of injured Carlos Nieto.
Marco Bortolami replaces the injured Will James in the second row.
Unbeaten Sale will pose a stiff test under the Edgeley Park floodlights, and if Glaws can get a result from this game after failing so far to hit their best form, they'll be doing well.

I was one of those who thought Les might go. But the squad's strength in depth will really be tested now.

I thought Les would be rested with Foster coming in. Looks like Glaws are going for tries on Friday with that 3/4 line
