Hopes for good result faded with penalty

AT&T Williams driver Nico Rosberg would finish the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix in a fantastic second place but during the race hopes for this result took a back seat as he had to serve a ten-second stop-and-go penalty. This penalty was imposed after he pitted when the pitlane was closed when the Safety Car was deployed after a crash involving Piquet.

RosbergBut Nico was able to find himself in the lead of the race after the Safety car returned to the pits. Up until the point that the team was informed of the penalty Nico was able to build up sufficient enough of a lead to see him return in third place after taking the penalty.

When interviewed Nico spoke of his annoyance over the rule that saw this penalty being applied. Nico said: "When I had to come in, I saw the safety car out. The crew said 'come in this lap. Every single time it is exactly the same thing (with the safety car rules). I was really annoyed as I thought that was it, the end of it. But then I saw I was able to pull a gap afterwards even after the stop. We had a good chance here this weekend and everything went our way which is great for me and the team."

As for his race Nico spoke of his difficulty in getting past Trulli who was running with a heavier car.

Nico added: "I had a little bit of a difficult start on the dirty side and dropped behind Jarno. He was heavy on fuel, so I had to get by him. The only chance was at Turn 1 as Turn 7 so bumpy it was impossible to outbrake someone.

"It took some time and even then had quite a hairy moment as I locked up everything but came through. Then drove like I was in qualifying and I was able to break away from group."
