Hamilton finished 0.5 seconds clear of the next best runner Kimi Raikkonen. Its hard to tell who’s truly fastest around this circuit and who’ll be fastest at Monaco next weekend, although McLaren do look strong, ultimately, the race winner will be almost decided in qualifying, as Monaco’s tight and narrow streets are hard to follow another car, not to mention overtaking it.
BMW proved to be the third fastest team today; Robert Kubica’s best time was just a tenth shy of Kimi’s time in the ultra-quick F2008. Red Bull also looked promising today, Mark Webber finished in fourth place, almost a second slower than Hamilton’s best time, though, they do look likely to score a handful of points in Monaco.
Sebastian Vettel tried out the new STR03, which will make its first race appearance in Monaco and consequently set the fifth fastest time of the day. He was followed in 6th by Williams’ Nico Rosberg, whose team seems to have slipped back over recent races compared to their opening form in the first three races.
Honda tester Alexander Wurz spent the day evaluating some new aero pieces for next weekends grand prix and finished the day in 7th a second off the pace of Hamilton’s McLaren, he was followed by Timo Clock in 8th. Last year’s Scuderia Toro Rosso driver, Valentino Liuzzi finished the session in 9th, with Luca Di Grassi rounding out the top ten.
