Hamilton had an impressive testing session at Hockenheim. He tested for the first two days before handing over to his team mate Kovalainen and completed every session at the top of the time sheets. His time of 1m14.872s on Wednesday remained the benchmark time for the rest of the day.
Williams remained strong throughout the first days of testing, with Rosberg finishing just behind Hamilton at the end of day two.
Although coming in behind the Williams Kimi Raikkonen was happy with the set up of his F2008 ahead of the German Grand Prix.
Both Red Bull drivers tested on the second day and Coulthard went faster than his team meat Webber with fourth place overall. The Scotsman evaluated the two compounds of dry weather tyres while Mark Webber worked on longer-term mechanical development of the RB4.
Despite engine problems causing a red flag in the morning session Adrian Sutil recovered well in the Force India, putting in a solid performance to take fifth on the time sheets.
Two more red flags came out in the afternoon session when Barrichello’s Honda came to a halt. Alonso had the same problem forty five minutes later.
