Massa continued his good form this afternoon by beating his own benchmark time from the morning session by one tenth of a second. His time of 1m14.989s was still 0.1s shy of Hamilton’s best time from yesterday.
The surprise time of the day came from Jenson Button in the Honda who finished the day’s session second fastest. The team had run a rapid qualifying simulation in the middle of the afternoon.
McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen focused on race preparation work and finished in third, 0.3s off Massa’s time.
Both Webber and Vettel improved on their times from the morning to finish fourth and fifth respectively for Red Bull and Toro Rosso.
The red flags were out again this afternoon. Giancarlo Fisichella caused extensive damage to his Force India when he crashed in to the wall at Sudkurve.
For the second time in two days Alonso was the cause of the red flags appearing yet again when his Renault came to a halt out on the track.
