The connections between greener motoring and Formula One will be further strengthened next year with the introduction of energy regenerating hybrid devices, one of a number of initiatives in the sport that will be increasingly relevant to the car industry and help accelerate the use of fuel-efficient technology on public roads.
The campaign aims to reduce the impact of motoring on the environment by educating drivers about more environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient driver behaviour. With the cooperation of automobile clubs in each country, Bridgestone and its group companies will promote '10 points for greener motoring' throughout the world to encourage drivers to 'think green' when they drive.
As part of the campaign, the FIA has launched a public policy declaration which calls on the United Nations to adopt the first ever worldwide target for CO2 emissions in passenger cars. Make Cars Green also outlines how policy makers, industry and consumers can all play a constructive role in the development of a more ecologically sustainable means of personal mobility in the future.
At the Japanese F1 GP, which will draw the attention of millions of people worldwide, Bridgestone will highlight the aims of the 'MAKE CARS GREEN' campaign. The F1 cars will be equipped with special MAKE CARS GREEN tyres which have been marked in the grooves with the campaign colour: green. As the Japanese F1 GP requires the medium and soft compound Bridgestone dry tyres, the medium compound will have a green stripe in each of the four grooves while the soft compound will have three green stripes in grooves with the normal white line in the second from inside groove remaining.
In addition to this, the staff and affiliates of Bridgestone will wear the MAKE CARS GREEN wrist bands while MAKE CARS GREEN booklets will be handed out to people who visit Bridgestone’s Event Booth at the Fuji Speedway.
Max Mosley"New rule changes, alongside the support for awareness-raising initiatives such as the Make Cars Green campaign, will change the face of motor sport and place it at the very heart of environmental developments in the automotive sector. The FIA is determined to ensure that future investment in motor sport will also help drive the development of technologies that will benefit the public at large.”
Shoshi Arakawa"We hope that the launch of the Make Cars Green tyre will draw public attention to the many environmental initiatives in and around Formula One. Environmental preservation is at the centre of our work at the Bridgestone Group and we hope that this collaboration with the FIA will help to spread this ethos worldwide.”
MAKE CARS GREEN tyres are available as dry tyres only. The specifications and performance of the tyres are the same as those for other tyres used this season. Four green lines will be featured on the medium compound tyres, and three green lines and one white line will be featured on the soft compound tyres.
Environmental preservation is one of the most critical issues of our time. The Bridgestone Group has been expanding and enhancing its environmental management activities to help preserve a safe environment for future generations.
