The Renault F1 team had marked the Monaco GP on their calendar as a possible venue in which to get a win. The expected that their car was going to suit perfectly the track and after three podiums they thought it was time for a win.
“The only positive thing out of this race is that we brought both cars through the chequered flag and scored some points." Said Briatore. "We thought we would be more competitive on this track and we were surprised today in the race by a much stronger performance that we expected from the Williams.”
Pat Symonds also lamented the lack of competitiveness to challenge for the win:
“The weekend looked very promising and we had hoped for a better result today. We feel that our level of competitiveness should have been higher: we didn’t have any particular problem in the race, it’s just that we needed a bit more of speed on this circuit.”
The team now moves to Canada where they will be racing in a couple of weeks. The Canadian GP, due to its nature, will present a bigger challenge for the Renault F1 team in their quest to finish on the top 3 at the end of the season.
