The BMW Sauber F1 Team also opted for just that strategy. Over the course of his three stints, Robert Kubica, the faster of the Munich and Hinwil based squad's driver pairing, completed a total of 24 laps. The Pole held a top-six position throughout the session and improved his lap times consistently. At the end of the day, he secured sixth position with a time of 1:41.281 minutes.
Like his team-mate, Nick drove three stints - and completed a total of 23 laps while doing so. He also succeeded in improving consistently. The German's 22nd lap proved to be his fastest but with his 1:42.453-minute lap, he was 1.3 seconds slower than Robert and had to settle for finishing 16th.
In the second 90-minute practice session, beginning at 14:00hrs CEST (13:00hrs BST), the BMW Sauber F1 Team will keep on gathering data, working on the set-up and executing tyre evaluations. The goal: to make a vital step to being perfectly prepared when things start to get serious in tomorrow's qualifying.
