Fisi hits 200 starts in Monaco

Fisi with Gascoyne
By Karl King May 16 2008
With Rubens Barrichello becoming the most experienced F1 racer ever in Turkey last weekend, it is easy to forget that another veteran of the sport will soon hit a milestone. In Monaco next weekend Giancarlo Fisichella will start his 200th Grand Prix - only the ninth person in the history of the sport to acheive this feat.

Classifying Monaco as his 200th start doesn't include the infamous Indy 2005 race where the Michelin runners pulled off before the start, nor France 2002 where Fisi crashed in practice and didn't qualify.

He'll be wearing a new set of Alpinestars overalls and a special '200' helmet by Arai in the Principality.

Giancarlo, whose first race came with Minardi 12 years ago, is still as motivated as ever: "I don't think I've changed much, but I hope I am a better driver than when I started. I've learned quite a lot, how to manage the race, how to manage the qualifying session, and to put more attention on testing and talking with the engineers and mechanics.

"I still feel young, I still feel happy to work in F1, to be an F1 driver. The only problem is travelling around the world all the time! But apart from that, I still enjoy F1. I wouldn't still be here if I didn't."

That was a really good summary of Giancarlo's career. Reminds me of how lucky Force India is to have him on the team. Thank you, FIF1 PR office smiling smiley

hes been great, always done well in dificult cars, its just a shame it did not work for him at renault. a difficult first season with renault when he had a load of failures and then alonso had grown into a world class driver by the second season

I always thought Fisi did a great job at Renault. Obviously he was supposed to play second fiddle to Alonso and he did that beautifully. In fact I think he contributed immensely to FA winning two championships. Obviously very much a team man.
In stark contrast to JPM. Had JPM played a similar role at macca, I think Kimi would have won the championship in 2005 and/or 2006.
