Satos triumphant drive
By SA07 June 11 2007
In a hectic race which saw 4 safety cars and 1 big accident by Robert Kubica, Lewis Hamilton proved his critics right and continued to write history as he took his first ever grand prix win in just his 6th race. Nick Heidfeld had a faultless race to 2nd while Wurz celebrated his 10th formula one anniversary with a bang as he finished in 3rd place.

Lewis Hamilton drove a faultless race and was never put off by 4 safety cars and at least 3 accidents and thrashed his opposition as they fell down the final hurdle one by one. Nick Heidfeld drove through the building site  of a track to finish in 2nd place and Alex Wurz in 3rd. Hekki Kovalienen made up for a bad weekend for Renault in 4th which is his best performance of the year and Kimi Raikkonen looked more like a rookie out there today in 5th place are Ferrari lost?

Crouching Tiger hidden dragon Takuma Sato drove through the field to take a fantastic 6th place taking over double world champion Fernando Alonso and Ralf Schumacher making that our 2nd points finishing position of the year and were now joint 7th in the points with the senior Red Bull team and of course ahead of the Honda works team.

Fernando Alonso came back through the field from a ten second stop and go penalty to finish 7th his worst position of the year. Ralf Schumacher finished in 8th place having his worst season yet with the carbon fibre lump they call Toyota. Mark Webber had a dismal race in 9th after a safety car period got it all wrong for him and Rosberg synchronised span to 10th. Anthony Davidson was all hot and beaverd in 11th of what could have been at least a point’s finish if he had not collided with a beaver which damaged his front wing forcing him to make an un announced pit stop which ment chaos down the pit lane for Super Aguri.

Rubens Barrichello was the last of the finishers in 12th place after Honda got the strategy all wrong in the safety car period.  Robert Kubicas crash was the talk of the day as he hit Jarno Trullis Toyota and went hurdling towards the barrier missing a parked up toro rosso by inches and then rebounding towards the track again while doing a 360 the Bmw finally came to rest sideways off track luckily. Robert incredibly survived the crash which is a credit to the FIAs crash tests, Robert is rumoured to have a broken leg and I wish him a quick recovery and im glad he is ok.  Massa and Fisichella were also involved in high drama when they entered the pit lane while it was closed and like Montoya in 2005 they were black flagged and had to sit out the rest of the race.

Something I will remeber for a long time:Takuma Sato vs Alonso backstraight canada

Takuma Sato

"What an awesome weekend for us. So many things happened during this race - I was really worried about what happened to Kubica and when I heard he was okay I felt relief and I would like to say a big thank you to the Formula One safety team. After that accident I then tackled the racing. It was a real mixture of competitive racing and safety car situations and our strategy worked well. At one stage I came into the pit because I saw an opportunity immediately after safety car was deployed and the pit lane was still open. The team knew and was on hand straight away. During the last few laps I had a great feeling because I was able to race with the front runners and I was able to confidently overtake and take back my position. This was absolutely the most beautiful day in my racing career and is an amazing result. A huge thanks to the guys today and all the people who support us".

Anthony Davidson

"It is such a shame about the beaver. It had it in for me for sure! I was running in third place at the time, behind the safety car. I was on a clear, one stop strategy and it damaged the front wing. I couldn't even see it at high speed and I could not understand why suddenly I locked up the front tyres and so I had to come in to the pitlane. The guys were taken by surprise in the garage when I came in, but they were really on it with the race strategy after that, telling me to overtake the safety car to get my lap back and it was a really enjoyable race at the end. I hope Kubica is okay because I saw the accident from the other side of the road. The race was complete carnage from the word go and I'm just happy to have made it to the end. I equalled my best result and it is great news for the team who did a great job today. I was out there on the option tyre, realised there was lots of graining and reported it to the team. I came in under the safety car to change the tyres and before Taku had even done any fast laps they knew to change the tyres back to the prime and the tyres paid off. It was really good team work so I am extremely happy."

Aguri Suzuki, Team Principal

"It has been a perfect day. Our team, and Taku, achieved another three points - it's incredible what they have done today. Anthony also did a very, very good job, but it's unlucky that during the race he hit an animal and this damaged his car. The whole team did great job today and I am very proud of them."

Was FA stop and go penalty for the same reason as Massa and Fisichella?

no Fernando had a stop go penalty of entering the pits while it was closed and so did Rosberg. Fisichella and Massa jumped the red light at the end of the pitlane.
