Profile: Milka Duno
By Andrew Cutler June 15 2008
Venezuela's Milka Duno caught the "racing bug" fairly late in life as compared to most professional drivers. At 24, with four Marine Biology/Engineering Master's Degrees & a budding modeling career already to her credit, she attended a Porsche Driving Clinic & discovered her true calling.

After spending 1996-1998 driving in various Venezuelian sport cars series events, Milka moved to the U.S. in 1999 to continue her driving education & to compete in the Barber Dodge 2000 Series. She also finished third in the Women's Global GT Series Championship that year.

In 2000 Milka won the Panoz GT Series Championship, the Ferrari Challenge race at Road Atlanta & competed in the Barber Dodge Pro Series. Joinming the American Le Mans Series in '01, she won four races: she also drove in the 24 hours of Le Mans.

2002 - 2005 would see Duno driving in various series, picking up two wins in the Rolex Sports Car Series in '04 & one in '05. After a fairly unimpressive 2006, Milka would bounce back in early 2007 with a share in the 2nd place effort at the 24 hours of Daytona; the best finish ever at that event for a female driver.

2007 would see Duno's career path take a different track as she left sportscars to try her hand at the IndyCar Series, running a limited schedule for SAMAX Racing. The original plan for 10 events was cut back to seven by season's end, & Milka would struggle with unfamiliar equipment, earning a "demotion" of her Series license to a probationary status, dependant upon her proving that she was not a danger to the other drivers.

With SAMAX bowing out of the IndyCar Series after 2007, Milka was left without a ride but, with CITGO sponsorship in her pocket, it wasn't long before Dreyer & Reinbold Racing came calling. Milka signed an 11 race deal with them, parterning with Townsend Bell, who would take over the car for the other seven races on the the '08 schedule: both drivers would compete in the '08 Indy 500.

Now driving for a more experienced squad, & with her probationary period behind her, Milka Duno continues to hone her skills as an IndyCar driver.
