Timing Is Everything
By Andrew Cutler June 22 2008
Despite the record floods that have plagued the region over the past few weeks, the IndyCar/Firestone Indy Lights weekend at Iowa Speedway is in full swing, with a sizable crowd expected. On Saturday they were treated to a thrilling 115 lap, 100 mile Indy Lights race on the 7/8 mile oval.

Polesitter Arie Luyendyk Jr. held off Dillon Battistini for 101 laps before the young Brit used lapped traffic to his advantage, getting around the son of the two-time Indy 500 champ. "We lapped a few of the cars several times and we both got held up, so I realized if I dropped back a little bit and when he got held up I might be able to carry a run on him and it worked perfectly."

This was Dillon's third win of the season, moving him into the championship points lead over Richard Antinucci. Luyendyk finished second, & Ana Beatriz came home in third.

After the Indy Lights event was over the IndyCar drivers were scheduled to make their qualifying runs for Sunday's Iowa Corn Indy 250, but an untimely rain shower forced the IRL to cancel qualifications. As a result, the drivers will line up for tomorrow's race based on their current championship points standings.

This puts Scott Dixon on the pole, with Helio Castroneves on the outside of Row 1. With both drivers having their struggles getting their cars up to speed during the practice sessions earlier in the day, neither is complaining too much about the turn of events.

Here is the complete starting grid for the race, which takes place at 1pm ET on Sunday, June 22.
