IndyCar Drivers Enter ALMS Event
By Andrew Cutler September 19 2008
While they wait through the seven week "break" between the regular season finale at Chicagoland and the upcomming exhibition race at Surfers Paradise, Australia, several top IndyCar drivers have landed a ride in next Sunday's American Le Mans Series race at Road Atlanta.

The 10 hour/1,000 mile mini-edurance race, called the Petit Le Mans, is the penultimate round of the eleven race schedule for the Series, which features cars competing in two classes each of Le Mans Prototype and Grand Touring cars.

Dario Franchitti, who will return to IndyCar in 2009 with Target Chip Ganassi Racing, has signed on to share driving duties with former IndyCar driver Scott Sharp and David Brabham in an Acura ARX-01b LMP2 entry. This year's IndyCar Series champion, Scott Dixon, will help out behind the wheel of a similar car for de Ferran Motorsports, sharing seat time with former IndyCar star Gil de Ferran and Simon Pagenaud. Team Penske, which regularly fields two Porsche-RS Spyder LMP2 cars, will enter a third for their IndyCar pilots, Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe. Andretti/Green Racing also fields a car - another Acura in the LMP2 class - and will give Tony Kanaan and Marco Andretti a chance to share driving duties with Franck Montagny. Finally, 2008 Firstone Indy Lights champion Raphael Matos will drive a LolaB07/46-Mazda MZR-R LMP2 car for BK Motorsports, splitting time with Gerardo Bonilla and Ben Devlin.
