Part of his reward for doing such a fine job was the opportunity to take one of AGR's IndyCars out for a spin around the 1.5 mile Kentucky Speedway oval circut, an outing that took place on Monday. Montagny made the most of the session, racking up 200 trouble-free laps with a best speed of 218.18 mph. If he had posted such a lap during qualifying for the race that was held there during this past August, he would have started from 4th place on the grid! Not bad for a guy who had never previously sat in a Dallara or driven on an oval.
Now the question becomes; what does this mean for his future? While all signs seem to indicate that AGR will keep the same driver line-up for next year, it is worth noting that Marco Andretti's contract is not yet signed, sealed & delivered. Could AGR be looking at running a fifth car? And what about Raphael Matos, their Firestone Indy Lights standout who won that series championship? Would AGR be willing to part with Montagny if another team expressed interest in him?
Hopefully an answer will shortly be forthcomming. One this is for sure: Franck will have alot of people in the paddock talking about him now.
