The final practice session for thew 2019 Australian GP would see the ROKiT Williams Racing team again finish slowest in the times. George Russell would finish ahead of team-mate Robert Kubica after their qualifying simulations. It was still a frustrating session made even harder when Robert was to make a mistake entering the pit lane hitting the wall with his front left wheel. But the session continued to support the view that the performances from George this weekend are impressive to say the least in what is a very difficult car. Netx session quaifying.
ROKiT Williams
Australian GP Saturday Practice
Team Summary:
Both Williams drivers would complete their first runs in the Saturday
practice session been the first drivers to set a time. But Verstappen would
go quickest with a 1m:25.106 running on the medium tyre. He would lower this
with a 1m:24.944 as the Williams drivers remained in their pits. Kvyat on
the soft tyre would set a 1m:24.860 to be quickest. At the front Vettel
would go quickest with a 1m:23.739 with Bottas second followed by Leclerc
and Kvyat. Hamilton would set a 1m:23.699 to be quickest ahead of Vettel and
Leclerc now third. As one would expect the Williams drivers were now again
slowest. After soft tyre runs George was ahead of Robert but they were still
slowest.
At the front it was now Hamilton quickest from Bottas, Vettel and Leclerc.
But Vettel would improve with a 1m:22.566 to be 0.8 ahead of Hamilton.
Drivers were now coming out for qualifying runs with Grosjean and Magnussen
now second and third. But Hamilton would go quickest with a 1m:22.292 from
Vettel and Leclerc. Grosjean was fourth followed by Magnussen. Both Williams
cars were still in their pits with six minutes remaining. The track was very
busy as more drivers came out for their qualifying simulations. After their
qualifying simulations the Williams drivers would remain slowest but they
had set their quickest times of the weekend.
Robert Kubica:
Robert first out for Williams running on the medium tyre. Robert would go
through the pit lane on his first lap returning to the track. He would have
a moment with Norris as the McLaren driver came out in front of him. A slow
lap from Robert with a 1m:45.881. He would improve with a 1m:29.310. Robert
would pit after a three lap run. With just under forty minutes remaining
Robert would return on the soft tyre. He would set a 1m:27.440 to now be
20th. He would pit after a short run coming back out again on a new set of
soft tyres. But he would pit again with 25 minutes remaining. Replays would
show Robert making a silly mistake hitting the wall coming down the pit
entry. The front left wheel hit the wall with quite an impact with bits
coming off his car. Robert would be first back out for his qualifying
simulation. A 1m:26.589 from Robert would see him move ahead of George if
only briefly. He would finish slowest 0.7 behind his team-mate.
George Russell:
George would follow his team-mate out also on the medium tyre. A 1m:30.322
from George as he came on the radio saying that he was sliding all over the
place. He would improve with a 1m:29.122 and would pit after a four lap run.
George would return with 33 minutes remaining also taking the soft tyre. A
1m:27.315 from George to move ahead of Robert. Further improvement with a
1m:27.196 with 25 minutes remaining. George would follow his team-mate out
for his qualifying simulation. George would set a 1m:25.944 to be 19th.
Another solid performance from the rookie.
